VARIOUS STATES

“Various States” is a limited edition set of 50 standard pinback buttons. The buttons, each mounted on cardstock, depict the letters “USA” surrounded by various analphabetic symbols including ellipses, asterisks, commas, hashtags, and more. In writing, analphabetic symbols include punctuation and other special glyphs that exist outside of the standard alphabet of a given language. "Various States” explores how these symbols, traditionally used to clarify the condition or state of a word or text, can also be used to expand upon, obscure, or transform meaning.
